About the Film

THE STORY

A warm story of friendship at church fish fry in Palmetto, Florida where folks, both black and white, come together to eat fish, laugh, and reminisce in a community still haunted by the ghosts of segregation. The film explores the importance of Southern fish fries to their communities and the ability of people to get past their divisions by focusing on something that truly unites them — their shared humanity. The film features notable personalities of Manatee County - Coach Eddie Shannon, former Principal Barbara Harvey, and the fish fry ringmaster Moody Johnson, as well many graduates of the famous Lincoln Memorial High School, the only public high school for African Americans in Manatee County before desegregation. Filmed at St. Andrews AME Church in Palmetto, FL.
